Got a few gripes about the new add-ons (Gas and Dropped Primary Weapons) and was told to put them here.
While flashy, new and different, these add-ons just seem to cut down on the good head-to-head action on the server. I truly doubt many new regulars (meaning someone with skill and intelligence) will find these entertaining for long.
The reason I play this game is not to just randomly kill my opponents but to compete against them with firefights, teamwork, maneuvering and strategy. I feel these new add-ons are unnecessary and take away from the real shootouts we enjoy. With flamethrowers and clusterbombs already active on the server, the addition of 2 more mods is just a bit tedious.
Dropped Primary Weapons-----> This mod actually rewards people who are bad shots. Without this mod, someone merely wounding you in the arm (a mediocre shot) has made an error and provided you a chance (even though they have the drop on you) to turn and kill them. With this mod in place, you now drop your primary weapon when struck in the arm and are almost completely at their mercy (because you are not only disarmed of your primary, but must also wait for the delay in switching to your low-powered secondary weapon---and all the while he continues to fire). The other issue with this is more important to me: dropped weapons negates too many of the fast and furious gunfights that are the best part of this server---pistol vs rifle/MG/bazooka/smg is not, nor ever will be, anything close to an interesting gunfight. And I'll add this: at longer range, the advantage in this seems to fall to the German side as they commonly have more cover to use when retrieving their dropped weapons.
Gas Bombs-------------------> I understand the Gas' purpose (to block a capture point or general pathway to your enemy) and found it entertaining for a few minutes. After those initial rounds I realized what the Gas is actually being used for: it is used as a defensive weapon to avoid gunfights. Instead of fighting to keep the enemy back, you simply throw up this wall and run away...now they can't get you or the flag and you can make your escape. Also, I've often seen Gas used on Spawn Points (boats as well as bunkers) which takes ZERO SKILL and instantly kills completely defenseless players...that's utter BS to me. I'd rather fight my way through cowardly spawn-campers to exit my Spawn Points than have someone Gas me in there time after time---at least I've got a fighting chance against the cowards.
I'm interested to hear any regular player's comments on both of these add-ons.
