Forgive the long message... First of all, I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. It's been a great comfort to my Mom and I knowing that you all have been behind my Dad and my family through all of this.
My Dad passed away at 7:50 this morning. He went peacefully in his sleep, which is all we could've asked for. They stopped preventative care yesterday and were just making him comfortable. In true "GTO" fashion, he gave it all he had. He was in the hospital for ten days, fighting as hard as he could, but the infection was too much for him.
I really want to stress how much you all meant to him. People from the server would come up in typical dinner conversation, which was actually pretty hilarious when we'd go out to eat... I'm sure the tables next to us wondered who in the world we were talking about with names like Wolfman and Looter. Haha! But my Dad, as big of a tough-guy he is, had a huge heart. When you all went through hardships, it tore him up. He truly cared about each and every one of you like you were family. I started playing this game with him when I was 13, and I'm almost 25 now, so you guys have been in our lives for a heck of a long time.
I'm going to miss him every single day, and I'll never be the same. I had a close relationship with my Dad, and for that, I feel very lucky.
DoD was something we could share together, and I'm glad you guys we were able to play with such wonderful people. I still remember coming home from college after not playing for a while, and we'd be giving each other a hard time about something stupid, and Dad would just say... "Doesn't matter. I can still kick your butt at Day of Defeat."
I know many of you have been asking about a paypal of mine, or some way to send funds. I spoke to my Mom about it, and we'd much rather any type of donation be sent to an organization/charity to be used by someone who truly needs it. As we get funeral arrangements set up, my Mom and I are going to think of different charities that my Dad supported that you all and the rest of our family can donate to. As soon as all that is set, I'll let you guys know.
And also, just a general thank you from me. I grew up on the server, and I really appreciate you guys always sticking up for me like I was your own. And my Dad appreciated it too. It's extremely comforting to know I've got so many father-figures out there.
I promise I won't be a stranger. Dad wouldn't have wanted that. And like I said, I'll keep everyone in the loop as far as arrangements go once we've made them.
Love you guys.
And Dad would've wanted you all to have a laugh (that was his favorite thing to do... make people laugh), so here's my absolute favorite picture of the two of us. Not staged. The speedo man just walked in the background and did that.
